Nepeta cataria
Carminative, antispasmodic, diaphoretic, nervine, astringent.
Traditional Uses:
May be used for colds and flu’s, bronchitis, asthma, and sore throat. Used for anxiety, insomnia, and nervousness. Helps with sleeplessness and tension headaches and acts as a general relaxing agent. May provide relief for spasms from menstruation and stomach or intestinal cramps, stomach upsets, dyspepsia, flatulence, and colic. Used as treatment for diarrhea in children. Beneficial for babies with colic, for teething and irritability.
Directions to use:
Infusion: 1 cup of boiling water over 2 teaspoons of the herb. Infuse for 10 – 15min in a closed container. Strain and drink three times per day.
Poultice: with dried leaves moistened with warm water and apply to affected area.
Safety precautions:
Can be given to children. Do not use if pregnant or lactating. Stay within recommended dosages. Consult with a medical practitioner before use.
