Diuretic, urinary antiseptic
Traditional Uses:
Stimulates and cleanses the urinary system and increases perspiration. It is used internally for urinary tract infections, especially prostatitis and cystitis, digestive problems, gout, rheumatism, coughs, and colds. It is sometimes also included in weight loss formulas for excessive water retention problems. It is often combined with Althea officinalis (Marshmallow) for best results. Steeped in vinegar it is used as a remedy for bruises and sprains.
Directions to use:
Infusion: Pour 1 cup of boiled water over 1 – 2 teaspoons of herb. Infuse for 10min and drink 1 cup three times daily.
Safety precautions:
Can deplete the body’s store of potassium. Increase your consumption of foods rich in potassium, such as bananas, various dark green vegetables, whole grains, and fish. Should not be used in patients with a history of kidney disease. Do not use if pregnant or lactating. Do not give to young children. Do not boil Buchu leaves. Consult with a medical practitioner before use.
